About the Datsun 510
The Datsun 510, often referred to as the “poor man’s BMW,” was introduced by Nissan in 1968 and became an instant favorite among enthusiasts for its affordability, simplicity, and surprising performance. But it was on the track where the 510 earned its legendary status. In the early 1970s, Peter Brock's BRE team and driver John Morton piloted the Datsun 510 to SCCA championships, famously beating out European giants like BMW and Alfa Romeo. Its lightweight body, rear-wheel drive, and strong 4-cylinder engine made it a fierce competitor and cemented its place in motorsports history. Today, the 510 is a cult classic and a symbol of JDM racing spirit.
